Mumbai : In yet another unfortunate incident, a sepoy with the Indian Army committed suicide at the residence of his relatives on Friday afternoon. The police said the victim was depressed over a failed love affair.

According to the police, the incident occurred at around 4:30 pm at Police Lines in Ghatkopar. The deceased, identified as Amol Landge, 28, had come to Mumbai to meet a female constable who stays in Police Lines.

Landge, a native from Sangli, with an intention to freshen up went into the bathroom. When there was no sign of him for a long time, the constable entered the bathroom and found Landge hanging himself from the grills of an overhead window.

Soon after which the female constable called the police and he was rushed to Rajawadi Hospital, where he was declared dead.

Further inquiries made by the police indicate that Landge took the extreme step after it became clear that he would not be able to marry the constable.

“Landge and the female constable were in a relationship for the last two years. However, his family was against it and had fixed his marriage with someone else,” said Rajkumar Kothmire, police inspector with Ghatkopar police station.

The police have registered an accidental death report for the moment. Further probe is on.
