Mumbai: The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) managed to make a twin-tunnel breakthrough at Dadar Metro Station with the Tunnel Boring Machines (TBM), in the Metro 3 corridor (Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ) on Thursday morning. Ashwini Bhide, the MMRC managing director said, “This is the Mumbai Metro 3’s third important tunnelling milestone. We are delighted with this accomplishment and are steadfastly working towards realising Mumbaikar’s dream of efficient commute at the earliest.”
Krishna 1, the TBM, which was lowered on September 21, 2017 from the Nayanagar launching shaft completed its tunnel drive of 2,490 metres in package four at Dadar metro station. Similarly, the Krishna 2 TBM, which was lowered on October 18, 2017, from the Nayanagar launching shaft completed its tunnel drive of 2,472 metres in package 4 at Dadar metro station, informed MMRCL. The breakthrough marks the achievement of an important milestone towards the steady completion of the 33.5-km-long Metro-3 corridor believes officials from the MMRCL.
Krishna 1 and 2 made their way through the rocky strata made of basalt grade, breccia and tuff grade rocks. With this, the MMRCL said they have completed about 18 km of tunnelling. And to achieve this, 17 TBMs have been commissioned at 10 TBM shafts and overall 35% work has been completed to date.
