Mumbai: Teachers of 104 unaided Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) schools protested on Monday outside Matoshree, the residence of Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray.
Teachers demanded the civic body should provide financial aid to these schools and were adamant about meeting Thackeray. But Thackeray did not show up and the police turned the teachers away.
Teachers have been protesting over this issue for the last 22 days at Azad Maidan. They claim these unaided schools have been approved by the BMC but the civic body does not provide any financial aid. Teachers have appealed to the mayor, the chairman of the education committee and other civic officers over this matter but to no avail.
While protesting outside Matoshree, teachers claimed they would not stop unless Thackeray met them in person. But police turned them away by stating Thackeray would not meet them and Matoshree was no place to protest.
Teachers have been assured by Anil Parab, MLC of Shiv Sena, that their issue would be resolved. Though teachers have halted their protest at the moment, teachers claimed they would resume the protest if their demands are not fulfilled in the next two days.
