Mumbai: The Vile Parle police have booked a 28-year-old man, identified as Shoaib Sayyed, for allegedly raping the victim on the promise of marriage. Police said the accused, Sayyed had established physical relationship with the victim.
The accused and his sister Masroor Sayyed are on the loose. So far, police have arrested the duo’s father Ghulam Sayyed (63) for allegedly harassing the victim.
According to police, the victim, a school teacher, came in contact with Shoaib Sayyed in 2012 through a social media platform where the duo gradually developed a close relationship.
“The victim was under the impression that Shoaib Sayyed will marry her and continued the relationship for five years. However, as it turned out, Shoaib was taking undue advantage. Back in 2014, when the duo started dating, he was giving false assurances to the victim and was deliberately not talking of marriage with her.
The victim alleged the accused took her to a Vile Parle-based hotel and established physical relationship. Surprisingly, when the victim asked him to get married and take the relationship ahead, he got engaged to her without informing his parents,” said an investigating officer. While they were secretly engaged, the victim got pregnant twice.
On both the occasions, she had to undergo abortions. However, second time when the victim refused to abort the child, Shoaib threatened to release their intimate videos, recorded without her knowledge. The victim then approached Shoaib’s parents, who allegedly assaulted and humiliated her.
Then, she lodged a complaint against Shoaib, his sister and father at V B Nagar police station. The matter was transferred to Vile Parle police station. “Shoaib and his family are residents of Kurla West. After the First Information Report (FIR) was registered, Ghulam was arrested.
A case has been registered for rape (section 376), voyeurism (section 354c), outraging modesty of a woman (section 354), causing miscarriage without woman’s consent (section 313), wrongful confinement (section 342), causing hurt (section 323), criminal intimidation (section 506) and common intention (section 34) of the IPC. Shoaib and his sister Masroor are absconding. Further investigation is on,” said police.
