The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is looking for a consultant for the proposed cycle track project on Eastern Express Highway (EEH). The said highway starts at Sion and ends at Mulund.
According to the MMRDA the selected consultant will be responsible for planning and designing of cycle track and Junction improvement on this highway. It has issued a request for proposal (RFP), wherein the interested agencies can submit bids online. Last date of bids submission is June 28th.
Besides this, similar tender for WEH which starts from Dahisar and ends at Mahim creek will also be issued soon.
According to the MMRDA official, the consultant will prepare a feasibility report of proposed cycle track project. Based on which the secondary work that involves calling tenders awarding contract will be done.
Interestingly, Minister Aaditya Thackeray is very much keen in cycle track project. He also held several review meetings for same with the MMRDA officials in the past. As part of this, it (MMRDA) has now accelerated the related works for the said project.
Apart from cycle track project on the EEH&WEH, the MMRDA as a larger plan will be upgrading both these highways. The upgradation plan includes setting up solar panels, storage tanks below flyovers as rainwater harvesting plan, improving junctions, roads are part of this objective.
There are 12 flyovers on EEH and Seven flyovers on WEH. Of which, the first four flyovers in package one on WEH (Mahim causeway to International Airport ) the beautification and rainwater harvesting system work has been initiated by the MMRDA reportedly. In lieu of it, the appointed contractor has been offered advertisement rights.
