Mumbai: In its constant crackdown on drug peddlers and suppliers in the city, a 35-year-old man was held with almost 24 kilograms of marijuana valued at ₹4.48 lakh, from Malvani area in Malad (W) by Crime Branch Unit 11. The accused, identified as Firoz Mohammad Haroon Sayyed alias Fuga, was apprehended and booked under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substance (NDPS) Act.
According to police sources, on June 29, they had received a tip-off that a man carrying a plastic bag was moving suspiciously around the Hathi Garden area in Malvani. Acting on this information, a team was formed and sent to the spot to verify the suspect and get more leads on the case.
When the team reached the spot, at around 6.45pm, they laid a trap to nab the accused. Police personnel dressed in civil clothes spread in the vicinity to evade any form of suspicion. Based on the information and description, police nabbed Firoz Sayyed from Hathi Garden and he was found with 1.2 kilograms of marijuana in his possession in the nylon carry bag, said inspector Vinayak Chavan.
During further investigation, police interrogated Sayyad and it was revealed that he had stored a large stash of the contraband at his residence near Malvani Gate No. 8, following which a police team raided the premises and found 22.6 kilograms of marijuana.
Subsequently, police seized 23.8 kilograms of marijuana from Sayyad and further investigation is underway to ascertain from where he procured the contraband and who were on his list of clientele.
