A 45-year-old sweeper at JJ Hospital was arrested for allegedly making lewd gestures at a minor. The sweeper has also done the same with hospital nurses in the past.

According to Mid-Day, the accused has been identified as Nitin Waghela (45). The incident took place on February 9 when a 17-year-old girl from Jalgaon was accompanying her ailing grandmother at JJ Hospital. When the victim was waiting outside the operation theatre, the accused allegedly made obscene gestures at her. Initially, the victim ignored Waghela but he continued the gestures past midnight.

The minor victim then narrated the entire incident to her aunt, who later approached the hospital’s administrative office to complain about the accused. The hospital’s administrative office suggested going to the police. An employee at JJ Hospital told the leading daily, “Waghela was not on duty at the time of the incident. He was known to roam around in the hospital premises and peep into the windows of nurses’ changing room. Many nurses had warned him not to enter their changing rooms and washrooms without knocking but he would simply say ‘sorry’ and continue such acts.”

The accused was arrested after a complaint was filed by the victim with the JJ Marg Police. The cops have booked Waghela under sections 354D (stalking) of the IPC and section 12 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
