Bhayandar: The director of a Delhi-based contractual bus operation’s company landed in the custody of the Anti Corruption Bureau ( ACB) on Friday for offering a bribe of Rs25 lakh to BJP legislator Narendra Mehta who is also a corporator in the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC).

While the accused has been identified as Radhe Shyam Kathuria, the bribe was allegedly offered to secure a safe passage for his company Shyama Shyam Services to bag the contract of running and maintaining the public transport utility of the MBMC in the twin-city.

This, despite the fact that the company was the sole bidder in the tender process. After being offered the bribe money, Mehta alerted the Thane unit of the ACB which laid a successful trap in Bhayandar on Friday evening. A tender clerk of the MBMC is amongst others who are also under the scanner of investigations. While the ruling BJP had vehemently opposed the resolution to award the contract to the Delhi-based operator, the Shiv Sena teamed up with the Opposition to pass the proposal.”

Realising that there were huge manipulations in the pro-contractor bid that was bound to cause huge losses to the civic body, our party had opposed the move. Such huge monetary transactions prove our point,” Mehta said. While further investigations were on, a case under the relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 has been registered in this context.
