Mumbaikars brace yourself for traffic congestion, as Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is all set to conduct major repairs of nine bridges in Mumbai. This repair work will cost BMC around Rs 31 crore.
According to Hindustan Times, the bridges which will undergo repairs are Princess Street flyover, Kemps Corner flyover, Reay Road bridge, Belasis Bridge, Kennedy bridge, Vidyabhavan foot overbridge (FOB), Juhu Tara Road near SNDT university, Dhobighat Majas Nullah and the one at Lokhandwala Complex near Kamat Club. The BMC has already tabled the proposal and is waiting for approval from the standing committee.
But the BMC has stated that this repair work won’t affect traffic. A senior official from the bridges department told the leading daily, “These bridges require major repairs, which will also involve resurfacing and concretising. We are ensuring that traffic in and around the bridge is not affected as the resurfacing work will be carried out during the night.” Out of nine bridges, six bridges from South Mumbai will be repaired in 18 months, while the remaining three bridges which are in the western suburbs will be repaired within 12 months.
