Mumbai: During a demolition drive against illegal construction, a BMC sub-engineer from the P-North ward was threatened and verbally abused by an individual in Marve, Malad West. A video capturing the incident went viral on social media on Monday morning. The Malvani police have filed an FIR against the individual for allegedly obstructing government officials in the performance of their duties.

Last Wednesday, civic officials from the P North ward inspected a plot in front of Bagicha Hotel on Marve Road and discovered an illegal construction. The unauthorised structure, covering 1,500 sq. ft., led to the issuance of a notice to the owner on Friday. However, the civic officials encountered stiff opposition from the owner, which escalated into a confrontation.

In his complaint, Pravin Muluk, the sub-engineer of the P North ward, stated that during the demolition drive, the individuals named Yogesh Shridhar Rao and Nilofer Innmullah obstructed his duties. "Rao pushed and verbally abused me, and in an aggressive act, he picked up a brick and struck his own head. He also threatened to set himself on fire if we did not stop our action," alleged Muluk.

Despite facing opposition, the civic officials successfully demolished the illegal construction. Later in the afternoon, Muluk filed a complaint against Rao at the Malvani police station. A senior police inspector from the Malvani police station stated, 'We have issued a notice to the accused, and further investigation is underway."
