Mumbai: BMC appealed to D ward buildings to submit report of structural audit

The BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), on Friday, appealed to the residents living in the D ward (Malabar Hills, Grant Road, Girgaon, Lamington Road and Nepean Sea Road) to submit a structural audit report of their housing societies.

In its statement, the civic body said that the report of the structural audit should be submitted at the local D ward office. Any building that is not in a good condition will be classified as dangerous, following which future the course of action would be taken.

Prashant Gaikwad, assistant municipal commissioner and in-charge of D ward, said that this is a precautionary measure that has been planned out to avert any kind of dangerous situation in the future.

"The societies need to carry out the inspection on their own. There are many old buildings in Girgaon and Lamington Road," Gaikwad said.

He also said that his office has already written to Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) to carry out the audit of cess buildings in his ward. "Our engineers carry out regular inspections of the buildings due to the ongoing monsoon season. Some of the cess buildings, which belong to MHADA, have also been identified by us and we have written to the authorities to take appropriate action," he said.

In the statement released by BMC, it has said that in case there is any dangerous situation, then the local ward office and disaster management cell should be informed immediately.
