BJP has slammed Shiv Sena ruled BMC and Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray after water logging in many areas in Greater Mumbai following the first rains. BJP legislator Ashish Shelar alleged that there has been a Rs 1,000 crore scam in the last five year in the works relating to the cleaning of nullahs and other measures undertaken to avoid water logging during monsoon. Further, BJP took a dig at Thackeray saying that he will now blame the Modi government for water logging in the city.

Leader of Opposition in the state council Pravin Darekar questioned whether BMC or CM is responsible for the water logging in the city.

Shelar said, ‘’ In the first rains only the transactions of cut commission got exposed. BMC also stands exposed on its claim of 104% or 107% completion of nala cleaning/stormwater drain's pre-monsoon cleaning. It was further claimed that Mumbai will not flood this monsoon. Despite spending Rs 5,000 crore in last five years, there was flooding.’’

He claimed this year there was water logging in areas which had never reported it in the past. ‘’Take care of Mumbaikars,’’ he said.

"The first spell of monsoon has exposed tall claims of BMC. But see the reality of how city roads are flooded, Water has gone in the houses. BMC spends Rs 70-100 crore every year on nullah cleaning and if we calculate other Pre-monsoon work they will sum up to Rs 500 crore per year, where has this money gone?" Shelar demands inquiry into this so that Mumbaikar's will know where exactly this money has gone and who is responsible for this mess.

In a related development, former Mumbai Congress chief Sanjay Nirupam tweeted a video of one of the Submerged subways of Mumbai and questioned where the crores of rupees where sanctioned for cleaning of drainage line and de-silting of Nullahs have gone?

On the other hand, Aam Aadmi Party leader Ruben Mascarenhas took to Twitter and called out the "Mumbai model". He wrote: "The floods speak volumes of BMC's so-called monsoon preparedness! What happened to all those pumping stations? What happened to all those claims of completion of 'nullah'/ storm water drain cleaning? Mumbai Model anyone?!"
