Mumbai: BEST bus crashes into overhead gantry of Vakola bridge; no injuries

Mumbai: A double-decker bus of Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) met with an accident late on Wednesday night. The bus crashed into the overhead gantry of the Vakola bridge in Santacruz on the Western Express Highway. No casualty was reported, but the front portion of the bus was badly damaged. “Since, it was just post midnight, the bus wasn’t transporting passengers. The driver and conductor escaped unhurt. The bus was attached to Kurla depot and was proceeding from Marol depot to Kurla depot when the accident took place,” said a BEST official.

He added, “The front three seats of the upper deck and the front portion of the vehicle was fully damaged.”  An official inquiry will be conducted to ascertain the cause of the mishap. The driver, Anand Vibhute’s role is under probe.The BEST will also check if there was a human error or technical problem, leading to the mishap.
