Mumbai: Matunga police have arrested a 51-year-old man absconding since 30 years on Wednesday. The arrested accused Sanjay Banudas Bhode was arrested from Satara. Bhode was accused for five audacity cases and was scared of been killed in an encounter by the Mumbai police. He was a resident of Jogeshwari but was hiding at his maternal uncle’s native in Satara.
The police said there are around five different cases registered against him like robbery, cheating etc. at Matunga police station in 1990 and 1991. “The court declared him absconding in 1999 and ordered for his arrest as soon as possible,” said a police officer. Mumbai police started a search operation to trace him.
A team comprising of Suyog Amrutkar, police sub-inspector along with police constable Sunil Karpe and Mangesh Jarhad started gathering details from his relatives. “We received information that he is been staying at his maternal uncle’s place in Satara.
Our team reached the village and with the help of the local police he was nabbed. He was into farming and was leading a farmers life. He was produced in court and sent to jail custody,” said Bharat Bhoite, Senior Police inspector, Matunga police station.
