Life is unpredictable, you will have no idea on what is coming next, this phrase proved right for a 28-year-old youth. The 28-year-old youth died after a dead tree fell on him near Vasant Nagri township of Vasai East.
According to Mid-Day, the 28-year-old was identified as Rahul Sawant. Rahul was working as a marketing executive in a private firm. The incident took place on February 25, when Rahul was returning home on his two-wheeler after meeting his friend in Nalasopara. While returning a branch of a dead tree fell on his head. After the incident, the locals rushed him to the hospital in Thane where the doctors referred him to RN Cooper Hospital in Andheri for further treatment. But on Tuesday, Rahul succumbed to the injuries he received. Rahul’s sister Rajshree Salvi told the leading daily, that he was the support of their ageing parents.
The locals have said that the Vasai-Virar City Municipal Corporation (VVCMC) had ignored their complaints regarding dangerous, dead trees. To which Rajshree Salvi told the leading daily, “several social workers and local residents had complained about the condition of dead trees, but the VVCMC did not pay heed to them. My brother would be alive today had the authorities listened to their demands.” The VVCMC commissioner has said that he will take action in the case. Regarding compensation he added that VVCMC will extend all possible help to the family as per the provisions.
