“I have discussed the issue with CM and he is also very keen to solve it. After recruitment in the MSRTC, we are going to expand the scheme in other departments of the State govt.”
Mumbai : State transport minister Diwakar Raote, on Thursday, announced that the children of draught-affected farmers who committed suicide will get jobs in the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC). Raote added that kin of such farmers will also get preference in other government services.
Earlier, the government had announced a compensation of Rs 50,000 to the family of a farmer who commits suicide and later it proposed that instead it will provide a monthly relief to the family from the same amount for 20 years.
“The government is with farmers and we will help them to bring out from the clutches of debts. In government jobs there are various reservations. The MSRTC is creating a quota for the kin of farmers who committed suicides due to debt,” Raote informed.
“The recruitment drive in MSRTC will begin in next few months and farmers’ kin will be given priority in it,” he added.
According to Raote, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has approved the proposal. “I have discussed the issue with Chief Minister and he is also very keen on the issue. After recruitment in the MSRTC, we are going to expand the same scheme in other State government’s departments,” said Raote.
To ensure safety of passengers, the MSRTC is getting a bond signed from drivers that they will not drink and drive, he informed.
The MSRTC is recruiting 730 posts of drivers in the corporation. The management will take an undertaking from the recruits that they would not chew tobacco or will not consume any other elements, Raote added.
