Mumbai : Giving Mumbaikars another reason to smile the Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation (MRVC) is considering getting not just 20 but 30 stations under its redevelopment plan. In the recently announced Railway Budget, 20 stations proposed by MRVC for redevelopment worth Rs 2,000 crore have been sanctioned under the Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP)-III.
MRVC has also planned to conduct meetings with other transport agencies of the city who would like to invest in the development of other crucial stations – which are expected to generate revenue for the government once they are developed and integrated.
The revamping of these stations will not only give the commuters a wider space to move in but also integrate the station to other modes of rail and road transport such as Monorail, Metro, auto rickshaw, taxi and buses.
An official from MRVC said, “We will integrate the stations with other modes of road transport by allocating them proper space for parking and picking up commuters who will come out of the stations.”
Moreover, the platforms of the station will be made free of any food stalls which will be placed at a separate area demarcated as food courts.
The stations will be remodelled based on the Andheri station which is currently under construction. The booking offices along with other modes of ticketing such as ATVMs, CVMs at Andheri station have been moved to a spacious concourse which is well connected with lifts and escalators.
