Mumbai : A day after a minor was sexually assaulted in a prominent school in Dadar, Mumbai Police is considering charging the school authorities with negligence. The Shivaji Park police authorities have also asked the school authorities to conduct an internal inquiry into the matter.
The incident occurred on Friday when after the end of the cultural programme, the girl stayed back in school since she had missed the school bus. When the class teacher was informed, she informed the child’s parents, handed over the girl to the son of the school attendant and left. The girl then went to the girl’s toilet on the second floor of the school where she was sexually assaulted by an employee of the catering company which had leased out part of the school.
The police arrested Somnath Yadav (20), an employee of Mayur caterers which had leased out two of the schools cultural halls. Yadav alongwith three other youngsters stayed in the two halls of the schools and sometimes also helped manage the canteen.
The Shivaji Park police allege that the teacher showed negligence by not staying back in school till the student’s parents reached the school to pick up the child.
“We have asked the school to conduct an internal inquiry after talking to all the teachers present on that day. We are also speaking to the principal to know how the Trust let four strangers stay in the school without properly verifying their backgrounds,”said an officer of Shivaji Park Police station.
When Free Press Journal spoke to the principal, he denied having any knowledge about the four youngsters living in the school premises. He informed that the school trust had let out the space and he had no further knowledge. The principal and the school authorities might be charged with negligence.
