Maharashtra records 34,424 new COVID-19 cases, 34 of Omicron variant

Maharashtra on Tuesday, January 11, recorded 34,424 fresh COVID-19 cases, almost 1000 more cases as compared to on Monday, taking the number of the active caseload in the state to 2,21,477. Meanwhile, the daily case count in the financial capital continues to plummet with 11,647 new cases reported in the city on Tuesday.

The state recorded 22 COVID-19 deaths in the day, taking the number of total fatalities to 1,41,669. Meanwhile, Mumbai registered two deaths due to covid19 on Tuesday, taking the cumulative death toll in the city to 16,413.

Total 18,967 patients were discharged, taking the tally of those recovered across the state 66,21,070. The recovery rate in the state stood at 94.75% as of Tuesday, while the case fatality rate in the state is 2.02%.

Meanwhile, Mumbai’s positivity rate too started declining in the past few days. The positivity rate has come down from 30% to 20 % in the last 2 days pointed out BMC commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal.

"Daily cases are down from 20,700 to 11,647 in the last 4 days. 80 per cent of hospital beds are vacant. While 851 hospital beds were occupied today in 1 day but 966 beds got vacated on Tuesday. 46 deaths in 22 days of Third Covid Wave, Average 2 deaths per day (since 3rd wave started on 21st Dec’21). There is no need to panic but much need of extreme precaution and following up covid appropriate behaviour," said Chahal.
The Mumbai circle--which consists of areas under BMC, Thane rural, Thane municipal corporation, Navi Mumbai, Kalyan Dombivali Municipal Corporation, Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation, Bhivandi Nijampur Municipal Corporation, Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation, Palghar, Vasai Virar Municipal Corporation, Raigad, Panvel Municipal Corporation -- recorded 22165 new cases.

Total 34 new cases of the Omicron variant of coronavirus were detected in Maharashtra on Tuesday. With this, the total number of Omicron cases in the state has jumped to 1,281. Out of these, 499 cases have been discharged following a negative RT-PCR test.
