Mumbai: After inspecting 'The Unicontinental Hotel' in Khar, where comedian Kunal Kamra’s controversial video was filmed, the BMC is now checking if the hotel followed the proper building approvals and if any violations occurred. Accordingly, a report detailing any irregularities will be prepared and submitted to Municipal Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani for further action.
On Monday, civic officials had also inspected the Habitat Studio, where Kamra performed, located within the Unicontinental Hotel. The ward office will now review the hotel’s plans from the BMC's building proposal department.
They have also asked the hotel to submit all necessary operating permissions. In addition, the civic officials will check the approvals for the two mobile towers on the building, as well as the bar and restaurant operating on the premises, as each requires separate approvals from the BMC.
"We have asked the hotel management to submit the documents for all necessary approvals. If they fail to do so, they will face action. After the final report on the potential violations at the hotel is submitted to the municipal commissioner, action will be taken following his approval. Action will also be taken for using the basement as a studio space," said an official.
However, Vinayak Vispute, Assistant Municipal Commissioner of H West, remained unavailable for comment despite repeated calls and messages from this reporter. Meanwhile, the basement where the studio is being set up was found to be illegal based on initial findings.
The stage, which measures 21.70 meters in length, 7.5 meters in width, and 2.8 meters in height, was also inspected. Kamra has been facing controversy after his video, which mocked Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, surfaced on social media on Sunday.
