Mumbai: In a constant crackdown on the city’s cricket betting rackets during the ongoing Indian Premiere League (IPL) matches, crime branch police arrested five persons from Charkop at Kandivli (W). Police also seized mobiles, laptops and other electronic devices worth Rs40,000.
According to police sources, a crime branch team received a tip off about a betting syndicate operating at a flat in Kandivli (W). During the raid, the cops arrested five men, between 22 and 51 years old, betting on an IPL match between Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab held at Jaipur stadium.
The arrested accused, identified as Abdul Chhutani (27), Milind Soni (21), Yusuf Samra (51), Rony Raichura (34) and Manoj Lotlikar (25), had cricket betting mobile apps and websites installed on their phones.
A police official said the accused are cricket bookies from Rajkot, Delhi and Mumbai. They were also part of other international cricket bookie circles. “The main accused in this bookie syndicate, AK Topanwala, is absconding. The arrested accused will be questioned to know about Topanwala’s location,” said the cop, requesting anonymity.
