Bhayandar: Sleuths of the Navghar police arrested a 29-year-old man who duped couriers by posing as a consignee in Bhayandar. According to the police, the accused has been identified as Abdul Rashid Khan (29), a resident of Mumbai, who targeted local courier delivery boys by impersnating consignee, near their destinstions in the twin-city of Mira and Bhayandar.
The action followed when a 26-year-old courier registered a complaint with the police. In his complaint, the complainant boy stated that during his regular delivery duty, the accused accosted him in the elevator of one of the buildings in the Golden Nest area of Bhayandar (East), police said.
Claiming to be the consignee of the parcel, the accused person first paid the delivery charges and later on the pretext of some medical emergency took away Rs10,000 from the victim, with a request to take the money from his mother, who was waiting for the parcel at their apartment.
However, the complainant reached the apartment only to learn that he was duped. Not ruling out the involvement of the suspect in other crimes using a similar modus operandi, senior inspector Ram E Bhalsingh said, “Based on the complaint, we arrested the accused and booked him under sections 419 and 420 of the IPC. Further probes are on.”
