Bhanyandar : A full-grown kite — which is believed to have strayed into a swanky garden hotel in Kashimira — was rescued by animal welfare activists.
An avian species protected under the Indian Wild Life Protection Act, the kite was spotted in the utmost deplorable conditions by an animal welfare officer in the premises of Hotel Sai Palace located on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway, following which a team of animal welfare activists led by Fiza Shah registered a complaint at the Kashimira police station.
Accompanied by police personnel, the activists rescued the bird and rushed it to the Wild Rescue Centre for treatment and rehabilitation.
The police meanwhile registered a case under the relevant sections of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972 against the owner and manager for illegally possessing the endangered and protected species of bird.
Although the restaurant staff in their defence claimed that the bird had strayed into their premises, it is mandatory to inform forest officials about any such incident, which was not done in this particular situation, said a police officer.
