Mumbai : The month of December saw Mumbai experience many temperature fluctuations. Last week, the minimum temperature in the city had dipped to 11.4 degrees Celsius, the lowest in 10 years. However, for the last two days, the temperature has increased.
On Wednesday, the city saw a maximum temperature of 36 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature stood at 15.2 degrees Celsius. Although the nights are comparatively cooler, the daytime is getting increasingly hotter.
The weathermen say the wind pattern is the cause of fluctuations in temperature. “The warm winds blowing from the central parts to north eastern parts are the cause of temperature rise in the city. As these easterly winds do not really affect the minimum temperatures, the city’s minimum temperature is normal,” said IMD director VK Rajeev.
Mumbai will continue experiencing similar weather for the next three-four days. “As the wind pattern is expected to change again to northerly, the temperature will start dropping,” Rajeev added.
Thus, the city is expected to again enjoy cold weather from the next week. The sudden fluctuations in the temperatures are affecting the health of many.
“The heat during the day and cold at night is causing rise in viruses. Patients with asthma , gastroenteritis and other breathing issues are the worst affected. The pollutants in the air are adding to illness,” said Dr Shahid Bharmare from Kohinoor Hospital.
