Mumbai : Underworld Gangster Ashwin Naik has been arrested on charges of extortion and kidnapping a builder. He was caught red-handed by the Mumbai police while accepting Rs 50 lakh from the complainant.
On December 9, Naik and his accomplices visited the office of the businessman involved in a housing project. They allegedly kidnapped the builder at gun point and took them to their office located at Subhash Nagar in Chembur. They demanded Rs 50 lakh and also 6,000 sq ft space in the building he was constructing. He had previously extorted Rs 25 lakh from other associates of the builder. The builder requested some time to arrange the amount and left the office. He then approached Dadar Police . The police officers along with Dr Mahesh Patil, DCP, Zone 5, laid a trap to arrest Naik.
Accordingly on Sunday, the builder informed the gangster that the extortion money was ready. The gangster after fixing a time, visited Bhawani Shankar Road at Dadar to receive the amount.
He was arrested by the police officers while accepting the amount. Four of Naik’s accomplices were also arrested and have been identified as Pramod Keluskar , Janardhan Sakpal, Prathamesh Parab and Rajesh Tambe.
Naik was acquitted in 2009 after spending 10 years in prison for 16 charges. In addition to various extortion charges, he was charged with plotting to kill his wife Neeta Naik, a corporator.
Naik has been booked under sections 364A, 384, 387, 34 and 120(b) of the Indian Penal Code.
