Vasai BJP leaders busy distancing themselves from the incident

Palghar : An FIR was registered against an emerging BJP leader and his two accomplices for allegedly assaulting a police constable on duty during a nakabandi near Waliv police station on Tuesday morning at around 2:30am.

Arun Singh Thakur, who had held important posts like secretary for Thane rural and till recently used to flaunt his BJP youth leader image in Vasai Taluka, was also tipped to contest the upcoming corporation election in Vasai. A couple of BJP leaders present at Waliv Police station in Vasai east were busy distancing themselves from this incident and at the same time were also trying to downplay this incident.

What happened?

Arun singh who was travelling along with his two accomplices, Pradeep Singh and Manoj, from Mumbai to Vasai was stopped at range office naka in Waliv where regular nakabandi is conducted as it is one of the entry points in Vasai Taluka. Sources said that as Thakur was miffed at his vehicle being stopped for checking, started flaunting his designation and threw a few names also. Still unhappy with the checking he and his accomplices allegedly accused the cops of collecting bribes from commercial vehicles and started filming the checking on their mobile phones to which the cops objected and a scuffle ensued. It has also being alleged that one of them had caught the constable by his collar and threatened him during his scuffle.

While distancing themselves from this incident, one of the party leaders, who also is eyeing the corporation elections, said that Arun Singh Thakur didn’t hold any designation as after the inception of Palghar district all the posts were dissolved.

Thakur is a history-sheeter with cases registered against him in Vasai, Nalasopara and other police stations across the western belt. The cops have registered offence under various sections of the law and further investigations are on.
