Raghuvanshi sets the balls rolling with a neat 66 break

Pune’s Anand Raghuvanshi produced the best performance in the opening round of the senior snooker main draw round robin league matches in the Malabar Hill Club Maharashtra State Selection Tournament 2012, and played at the WIAA Malabar Hill Club on Sunday.

Raghuvanshi rolled in a superb 66 break in the .second frame en route to a comfortable win against Mayur Sanghavi (WG) winning in three straight frames at 62-16, 74(66)-2, 69-54. The other notable performances of the day were from youngsters Jaiveer Dhingra (PJHG) and Ishpreet Singh Chadha (KG), both winning theirGroup-D encounters. Jaiveer .rallied from the loss of the opening frame to subdue Rovin D’Souza (BG) 24-50, 59-47, 38-33, 61-24, while Ishpreet stunned the experienced Mahesh Jagdale 54-43, 46-22, 26-62, 72-32.

Fancied Yasin sails into third round

Fancied Yasin Merchant, a two-time Asian snooker champ, playing to a scratch handicap sidelined Kartik Parikh (+45) by a two frames to one margin in a second round match of the Bank of Baroda sponsored Rs 1.25 lakh prize-money P.J. Hindu Gymkhana Wilson Jones All-India Open Handicap Snooker Tournament 2012, at the Hindu gymkhana’s billiards hall.

Catholic Gym score easy win

Catholic Gymkhana recorded a convincing 4-1 win against Goan Sports Association in a Third Division match of MHAL League and played at the MHAL Stadium, Churchgate on Sunday. Catholic Gym skipper Gavin Vandrine scored two goals, while Clayton D’Souza and Carl Patel added one  each. For the Goans, Jagdish Chaudhary netted only goal.
