Fake cops extorted Rs1.65 lakh from Malabar Hill resident

Duo posing as police officer extorted Rs 1.65 lakh from a 34-year-old man from Malabar Hill and his friend. Malabar Hill police have registered an offence against the duo, one of whom one has been identified as Shaikh.

Mumbai: Duo posing as police officer extorted Rs 1.65 lakh from a 34-year-old man from Malabar Hill and his friend. Malabar Hill police have registered an offence against the duo, one of whom one has been identified as Shaikh.

According to the Malabar Hill Police, "On the first week of June Shaikh and his accomplice barged in the residence of complainer at Walkeshwar road, the duo introduced themselves from Mumbai Police and claimed that complainer has kept drugs hidden in his possession and started demanding money to save him from police case." Rs 5 lakh were demanded from complainer and his friends.

"To avoid trouble complainer gave the duo Rs 1.65 lakh but duo was persistent about the remaining money, even after receiving the money they continued harassing complainer over phone, after which finally complainer approached us and registered an offence," said an officer from Malbar Hill Police station.Malabar Hill Police have registered an offence under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections House-trespass (451), personating a public servant (170) and other relevant sections.
