Mumbai: Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday shared in detail about the case involving Ashok Kharat in the Assembly Session. The CM informed that the police have lodged eight FIRs against the self-styled godman in connection with multiple allegations, including sexual assault, extortion, circulation of objectionable material and offences under the Maharashtra Anti-Superstition and Black Magic Act, 2013.

While addressing the session, CM Fadnavis assured, "Everyone who helped him will be investigated," adding that deleted data from mobile phones and laptops seized from the accused and his associates is also being retrieved to uncover further evidence. Not just this, the CM added that all the details of who contacted him and who did the transaction will also be available soon.

Kharat Was Preparing To Flee The Country

CM informed the Assembly that Kharat was preparing to leave the country. CM said, "If Kharat had left the country, it would have been very difficult to trace him." The police issued a lookout notice against Kharat on March 10, and he was arrested on March 17.

Horrifying Case Details Revealed

CM said that Kharat posed as a religious figure to exploit women. "Kharat presented himself as a self-styled godman and indulged in rape and obscene behaviour with women. One of the witnesses who attempted to produce evidence feared for his life from Kharat," the chief minister stated.

Giving details of one of the cases, CM Fadnavis said that between February and March, Kharat allegedly called a woman repeatedly to his office, made her consume 'enchanted water' and sexually assaulted her under the guise of religious rituals. "She became pregnant, and Kharat later gave her pills for an abortion. He also threatened her," the CM stated. Speaking of other cases, the CM said that Kharat raped and sexually assaulted victims under the pretext of possessing divine powers and performing religious rituals. He added that the accused also threatened them, warning that their future would be ruined, their children would suffer, and they would be cursed if they spoke about the incident.
