Mumbai: Mumbai Congress president Milind Deora, along with the leader of opposition in the BMC, Ravi Raja, and other Congress leaders went on a reality check to examine the BMC claims of the cleaning of the gutters and the nullahs in the city. Milind Deora and others inspected the nullah cleaning undertaken at 60 feet road in Dharavi. The condition of the nullah was such that it was full with silt and other garbage, and its safety wall had also collapsed.
After seeing its condition, Deora criticised the BMC, as the drainage cleaning work was not completed even after the BMC missed the cleaning deadline. “It shows the irresponsible behaviour of the administration towards the cleaning of nullah in the city. Drains are not cleaned, the gutters and nullahs are filled with dirt, during rains due to which waterlogging takes place, the dirt comes onto the roads and people have to travel through it.” Every year, BMC spends crores on nullah cleaning, but like every year, this year too, the cleaning has not been done. The monsoon has started, but the Mumbai drains are yet to be cleaned totally.
