Mumbai : A danseuse from Kalyan was arrested by Anti-Extortion Cell of Mumbai Police from Nagpada area on charges of kidnapping, illegal confinement and extortion on Monday. The probe agency has also launched a search operation to track down three others involved in the case.
During the month of July, a businessman keen on setting up a new manufacturing facility in Silvassa was looking for partners to finance his upcoming project. “Knowing through some of his acquaintances, he approached an agent based in Surat who asked the businessman to meet, Ajay and Ankush, both residents of Nagpur and were interested in funding such ventures. The victim along with his father and cousin accompanied by the broker reached Nagpur to meet them. Here they were introduced to a certain Mohsin as the main financer,” informed Atulchandra Kulkarni, Joint Commissioner of Mumbai Police.
Later Mohsin confined the Surat broker in a room and refused to let him go till the businessman paid them Rs 10 lakh. The businessman then arranged to pay Rs 1 lakh to procure the release of the broker. “After returning to Mumbai, Mohsin’s associates continued calling the businessman demanding the remaining amount. The victim then approached the Anti-Extortion Cell which initiated investigation in the case,” Kulkarni said while briefing the mediapersons on the detection of the case.
“The AEC sleuths alongwith Nagpada police followed the businessman when he went to give the remaining amount to someone as detailed by Mohsin. They finally managed to arrest the danseuse who is a resident of Kalyan and sent to collect the money from the victim,” Kulkarni added.
