Mumbai : A 32-year-old clerk working in the office of an IPS officer of the Additional Director General (ADG) rank has alleged that she was molested by the said officer in his office on Monday. She submitted a written complaint at Colaba police station in the evening on the same day, and the police are currently carrying out an inquiry in the matter.
The woman is a widow, and in her complaint has alleged that the said officer groped her and touched her in an inappropriate way when she had gone to his cabin on Monday morning. The police, however, did not register an FIR and are conducting an investigation to verify the claims in the complaint.
The officer in his defence, while speaking to FPJ, said that the complainant has had continuous disciplinary problems in the past. “A few memos were also issued against her owing to her inappropriate behaviour. I do not know what led her to submit a molestation complaint,” he said.
The officer also added that he would wait for the police to finish their inquiries and cooperate with them whenever they might need him to record a statement in the said matter.
According to the local police there are no witnesses in the case. They will be verifying the claims and also checking her phone call records to find out if she is casting the aspersions due to the memos that were issued in her name by her superior previously.
Such charges being levelled against a high-ranking police officer are not unheard of in police circles. The case of Deputy Inspector General Sunil Paraskar being accused of molestation and rape by a 25-year-old Mumbai-based model in July 2014.
