Mumbai: Instead of conducting the much-needed repairs to the Bandra skywalk, on the east side of the station to Kala Nagar, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has decided to raze it during this weekend, at an estimated cost of Rs4 crore. The officials indicated that once the Bandra-Worli Sea Link flyover is constructed, this skywalk will be reconstructed in September 2019.
This skywalk will be brought to the ground on Saturday and Sunday nights. The southbound arm of the skywalk will be demolished on Saturday from 11pm to Sunday 5am. The northbound arm of the skywalk will be knocked down on Sunday from 11pm to Monday 5am. The traffic clearance has even been obtained for the same. An MMRDA official stated, “The appointed contractor who has been awarded the BWSL flyover construction work will be responsible for razing it. The cost of razing the structure is included in the flyover construction cost.” This flyover was conceptualised to decongest the traffic snarls at the Kala Nagar junction. As per a study conducted few years ago, MMRDA had stated that 12,000 vehicles ply per hour in this area.
