Mumbai: The Government Railway Police (GRP) on Wednesday morning rescued a two-month-old baby boy, kidnapped from Mahim railway station and arrested Shahbaz Shaikh, 26, who apparently claimed he was promised Rs25,000 by Raju on whose instruction the child was kidnapped. Police are verifying his claims. According to the police, a woman, Madhu Parmar, 30, was sleeping on the pavement along the Mahim station, with her husband and two children. In her complaint, Madhu stated when she woke up at night her two-month-old son was missing. Madhu and her husband looked for their missing son for hours, but in vain.
In their search for the child, they reached Dadar station. When they could not found him anywhere, they approached the Dadar GRP office. The GRP immediately constituted two teams and began a search for the missing child. On Dadar skywalk, they noticed a man fleeing with a baby in his hands. When confronted, he started giving vague answers. The GRP cops took him into the custody. The child was taken to Madhu for identification. It was indeed her missing child. After the procedure, the child was handed over to the mother. The kidnapper, Shahbaz Shaikh, was arrested and booked under sections kidnapping (363), trafficking of persons (370) and common intention (34) of the the Indian Penal Code (IPC). During the probe, Shahbaz, a resident of Reti Bandar, Mahim, claimed one Raju promised him Rs25,000 to kidnap a child. Police are verifying his claims. The GRP cops handed over the accused to their Mahim counterparts for further investigation.
