Aid for dahi handi, Ganpati mishaps

Mumbai: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation will provide financial assistance in case of any mishap during the upcoming Dahi Handi festival. The civic body will also extend the aid if any accident happens during immersion of Ganesh idols by various organisers. The assistance will, however, not cover any eventuality in case of immersion of the idol by households. A proposal to this effect was recently approved in the Standing Committee meeting of the BMC, a statement issued here said. The financial aid will only be limited to the members actually participating in dahi handi and not to those who have come to see it, it said. The injured person would be given Rs 15,000, while the deceased will get Rs 1.50 lakh.
