61-year-old Neelam Rajgopalan returns to continue studies
Mumbai : After a gap of more than three and a half decade, Neelam Rajgopalan (61) who had to quit her education due to prolong illness of her mother, returned to university on Thursday with a strong determination to complete her degree.
Neelam said, “I had to keep aside her studies due to her mother’s illness. Now, I have the same enthusiasm and I will complete my final year of B.A. I have registered my name in the Institute of Distance & Open Learning (IDOL), University of Mumbai.”
On Thursday, IDOL has started online registration for 14 different courses via mode of distance learning. Vinod Malale, IDOL PRO, said, “Within few hours of first day of registration, university has received more than a thousand online registrations.”
Sharad Kabe (69), a retired BMC employee, also wished to continue his studies which he could not complete due to office and domestic responsibilities.
“I have some free time now. I wish to continue my education. Due to age and mobility issues, I cannot frequently visit the college. So I will pursue my education through distance learning mode with IDOL,” he said.
Shalaka Potdar (18) also took admission in FYBA under duel degree circular of University of Mumbai. She has been already pursuing her second year BMM in Dhahanukar College.
Malale said, “Working women prefer mode of distance learning as compared to men. Last year, total 80,000 students had taken admission for 14 different courses in IDOL and this year their number will touch 1 lakh.”
IDOL director Dr Harichandan said, “We see many old age candidates are grabbing opportunities of distance education which proves the phrase ‘Education has no age bar’.”
