Mumbai : Shiv Sena once again allegedly targeted Pakistani ghazal singer Ghulam Ali and ensured his event in the city gets cancelled. The Cinema Wing (Chitrapat Sena) of Shiv Sena forced the organisers of Ali’s show to cancel his event in Mumbai which was scheduled for January 29.
This is the second time singer’s event has been cancelled in the city under the pressure of Shiv Sena.
An event for the music launch of the ‘intolerance’ themed film ‘Ghar Wapsi’ directed by Suhaib Ilaisi was chalked down for January 29 in Andheri’s The Club banquet for which Ghulam Ali was scheduled to arrive in Mumbai. But the event was cancelled after the Sena men allegedly threatened the banquet owners not to host the event.
The organisers of Ghulam Ali’s event had written to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and the Mumbai Police to provide security to the 75-year-old singer as he had faced threats last year for holding a concert in Mumbai.
“We had written to the State Government and Mumbai Police to provide security to Ghulam Ali but unfortunately our requests were not considered,” said Suhaib Ilaisi, director of film ‘Ghar Wapsi’. “Some people from Chitrapat Sena threatened the owners of the banquet hall and forced the cancellation of our event,” he added.
When Free Press Journal approached Mumbai Police, officials denied of any request being made by the film director or the organisers of the event to provide security to Ghulam Ali.
Iliasi, however, claimed that he may once again approach the Chief Minister and ask him to attend the show personally so that there is no security threat again.
