Mumbai: The Anti-Corruption Bureau’s (ACB) page on Facebook, which names and shames government employees accused of corruption has become a hit on the social media website and garnered over 2000 likes in the one month since it has been operational. The page posts images of government employees who are trapped by the ACB while demanding and/or accepting bribes from complainants. They also give their names, designations and the reason for them having demanded the bribe. The page was ACB’s Director General Praveen Dixit’s brainchild and is one of the many steps the ACB has taken to make its activities digitised and make them known among the masses to spread awareness about corruption. In addition, the ACB also launched its helpline number a little over a month back – 1064. This number is operational all over the state and can be used to give complaints by people about government officials demanding bribes from anywhere at anytime. According to the statistics provided by the ACB, ever since it was started on July 22, the helpline number has received 185 complaints from all over the state, based on which, six traps have been laid successfully – one being in Nagpur, two in Bhandara, two in Gondia and one in Jalna districts. In Mumbai however, the number is still facing some technical difficulties, which will be ironed out in the next few weeks.
