Commuters brace yourself for traffic on Mumbai-Pune expressway, as there will be a block from 1 pm to 1.30 pm today. The block has been initiated to carry out maintenance work undertaken by the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL).
According to the Hindustan Times, cars and other passenger vehicles will be diverted via the old Mumbai-Pune highway. Heavy vehicles, however, will have to halt on the roadside until the work is completed. A senior traffic police officer told the leading daily, “MSEDCL officials will repair a broken overhead high-tension wire at Parandavi village, around 10 km ahead of Pune. Therefore, we have decided to block both the carriageways of the expressway for half an hour.”
During the block, cars and passenger vehicles coming towards Mumbai will be diverted to the old Mumbai-Pune highway near the Kiwale bridge near Pune. Similarly, vehicles going towards Pune will be diverted to the old Mumbai-Pune highway near Urse toll naka near Talegaon. In the meanwhile, the heavy vehicles will have to park on the side of the road. The heavy vehicles will have to be parked 500m ahead of the spot where repair work will take place. The heavy vehicles will not be diverted to the old Mumbai-Pune highway. The traffic police have also arranged a strong bandobast to tackle the traffic during the diversion.
