Bhayandar : Motorists will have to pay for on-street parking in the Mira Bhayandar area now. In an attempt to resolve the parking problem in the twin-city, the civic administration of Mira Bhayandar has decided to extend paid parking services at 23 more locations in the twin-city.

As of now only two Pay-N-Park bays are operational in the twin-city which has been experiencing unprecedented inconvenience for parking of vehicles. Adopting the highest bidding pattern to encourage competition and award annual contracts to private companies, the MBMC has decided to levy Rs 1 as six-hour parking charges for cycles; private two wheelers and four-wheelers will have to pay a fee of Rs 5 and Rs.10 respectively.

While heavy vehicles will be charged Rs 50, two-wheelers, three wheelers and four wheelers (Light Motor Vehicles) used for commercial purpose will be levied a parking fee of Rs 20 for every six hours and there after.

Motorists can also avail of single monthly passes for all paid-parking zones, officials said.

“The enhanced “Pay-N-Park” system will not only ease the traffic flow and congestion, but also boost the revenue of the civic body.” said Assistant Municipal Commissioner, Deepak Sawant. It should be noted that haphazard parking not only causes traffic snarls on most of the road in the Mira-Bhayandar region, but also leads to accidents.
