Mumbai : The Esplanade Court on Mon-day sent two accused, arrested in the Malwani hooch case, to judicial custody for 14 days. The accused – identified as Mamta Rathod (30) and Agnes Gracy (50) – were picked up from Malad on Sunday afternoon and were placed under arrest in the evening after question-ing. After spending eight days in police custody they were produced before the court that remanded to judicial custody. The court sent them to judicial custody on the grounds that they are not required by police for further investigation.

Both the women used to alleg-edly buy the spurious liquor from Francis D’Mello, one of the five accused arrested ear-lier, and would then sell it. Meanwhile, post arrest of Kish-ore Patel, a Gujarat-based sup-plier of methanol, the total number of arrests now stands at nine. The death toll in the tragedy has reached 104, and 44 people are hospitalised.
