Ujjain: Income Tax (I-T) sleuths on Tuesday conducted survey at three jewellers and a readymade garments shop. Tax evasion to the tune of crores was reportedly unearthed during the exercise. According to information, around 50 sleuths of I-T department descended simultaneously at Shrinath Jewellers, Shriram Jewellers, Veer Jewellers and Gaurav Paridhan-cum-JC Creations at around 3 pm.
The team, including women, reached at these business establishments in different vehicles along with armed security police personnel. The three jewellery shops are situated in Tambakhu Bazaar while fourth establishment is located on Shahid Park area. Eye witnesses informed, a panic like situation prevailed as the I-T sleuths launched survey at these establishments. Shutters of these establishments were downed half and the owners were embarrassed as people reached there to know about the action.
Most of these establishments are run by certain families in the city and have amassed huge money. On being contacted, I-T joint-commissioner Ashesh Rewar confirmed to Free Press that survey being conducted at four business establishments but did not elaborate about the action.
