Ujjain: Civil, police and municipal administration in the district swung into action as soon as Model Code of Conduct came into force for General Elections-2019 on Sunday evening. Polling for Ujjain Parliamentary constituency, which comprises 8 assembly segments (7 of Ujjain district and one in Ratlam district), will be held in 1814 polling stations under seventh phase of elections.
Collector and district returning officer Shashank Mishra and SP Sachin Atulkar convened a press conference at 7.30 pm at Brahaspati Bhavan to brief the media persons about their preparedness. They claimed that every step will be initiated for free, fair and peaceful conduct of elections. Preventive actions under Section 144 of CrPC have been enforced with immediate effect. Arms licenses have been put under suspension.
Municipal commissioner Pratibha Pal said that a massive drive is being taken to remove hoardings, banners, flex, etc from public places in a bid to abide by the Defacement of Property Act. Round-the-clock control room was already made operational on Sunday itself. Training of poll staff etc will also commence shortly. Soon after the press conference, DRO convened a meeting of all nodal officers and issued necessary instructions
