Ujjain: Former scientific advisor Prof Pandey participates in symposium on environment

Ujjain: Symposium on ‘Rising Temperature and Environment’ was organised at Vikram University on Tuesday. Symposium programme was part of serious of events organised by the University to mark the 150th anniversary of Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi. Former scientific advisor to prime minister, professor Om Prakash Pandey was present as chief guest of the programme.

Addressing the gathering, professor Pandey highlighted the rising global temperature and its negative consequences on environment and global population simultaneously. He quoted the Vedic texts to clearly understand the increasing environmental chaos as Vedas clearly defined the origin and progression of world. Vedas also provide demarcation between nobles and demons as the latter will cause the destruction of the world. Relating contemporary environmental situation with Vedas he said haphazard materialistic development at the cost of nature will prove detrimental for mankind.

Countries are competing to mark double digit growth in GDP but they lag far behind the threshold level of environmental sustenance and now the time has come to take unconventional steps for its restoration. Om Prakash Pandey also praised the scientific rationale behind the age old traditional beliefs like worshipping of Pipal, Ashok, Tulsi and Amla trees which helps in reducing the environmental pollution by purifying the polluted air and soil degradation. Vice-chancellor SS Pandey presided over the programme.

University fraternity felicitated professor Om Prakash Pandey with shawl, shreefal and memento for his remarkable contribution in developing scientific spirit in the country. Professor Rakesh Dand presented welcome speech in the beginning of programme. Registrar Dr DK Bagga welcomed the guests and proctor professor Shailendra Kumar Sharma anchored the programme. Dr Bagga proposed vote of thanks at the end of the programme.
