Indore : The sale of idols of Hindu Gods and Goddesses made of Plaster of Paris (POP) and painted with chemical colors may be tougher this year. The district administration has ordered all SDMs to inspect the manufacturing set-ups of the idol makers on Friday.

The district administration issued an order to all the SDMs on Thursday evening, instructing them to carry out the inspection of the manufacturing set-ups of the POP idol manufacturers on Friday from 9am to 1pm.

They have been asked to ascertain the status of idol manufacturing i.e. how many idols have been made and how much casting material they have in the stock. After SDMs sudden inspection, a meeting of the idol manufacturers has also been called on Friday evening at 4 pm at the collector office. Possibly Collector P Narahari would be present in the meeting.

Official sources said that purpose of the exercise is to take stock of the ground realities of the idol manufacturing. During the meeting, on the basis of reports of SDMs the administration may give any tough instructions to the idol manufacturers.

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has instructed all the state governments to ensure stoppage of emersion of idols made of POP and chemical colors.

Owing to this the district administration tried to ban on the selling and manufacturing of such idols, but the move was delayed.

In the meantime, the artisans had prepared lots of idols and said that they will under to great financial loss if the ban is imposed.
