Religious leaders push for diversity of religions

Indore : Religious leaders here on Sunday pushed for diversity of religions and religious tolerance on the second day of the 3rd International Dharma-Dhamma Conference organised on theme “Harmony of Religions – Welfare of Humankind”.

During the first session of the Day-2 of the conference, head of Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church (Kerala) HH Baselios Mar Thoma Paulose II stressed on the need to follow the Mahatma Gandhi’s philosophy of nonviolence and religious tolerance.

“The Gandhian philosophy underlines the diversity of religions and religious tolerance. We should follow his ideas and pursue the course of tolerance and well being, despite differences,” he said.

His speech was followed by address of Dr Shailesh Mehta, professor at Holistic Science and Research Centre. He shed light on positive and negative behaviours on humans and called upon for righteousness.

Other religious leaders, who addressed the conference on Sunday, also touched upon benefits of diversity of religions and pressed for it.

Ravishankar’s address today

Founder of Art of Living and spiritual guru Sri Sri Ravishankar would be the key-note speaker of valedictory function of the conference on Monday. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan, Minister of Culture and Tourism Surendra Patwa, Dr Lobsang Sangay of Central Tibetan Administration, Dharamshala and Union minister for Culture and Tourism Mahesh Sharma would be present during the valedictory function.
