Indore : A girl, hailing from West Bengal and disappeared in UP, was subsequently found in Indore. She does not know how and when she reached the city, but a Good Samaritan found her on streets and took her to Mahila police station. The tireless efforts of Cops paid rich dividend when they traced her family and handed the girl over to her father.

Though it sounds like a story of a Bollywood flick, it is a real story.

On July 20, a man had brought the 25-year-old girl to Mahila police station and told the cops on duty that the girl appeared mentally-challenged and he found her wandering about on streets.

The duty cops informed TI Jyoti Sharma and the girl was taken under their custody.

TI Sharma tried to collect information from her, but she could not be able to name even her father’s name. Moreover, she could only speak Bengali, which created a communication barrier for the cops.

After discussing the matter with senior officers, the TI was contemplating of shifting the girl to Nari Udhaan Griha temporarily when they got the breakthrough they were looking for.

Had disappeared from a marriage function

Three days after the call, the girl’s father reached the city. His joy knew no bounds when he saw his daughter as he and his family had lost all hopes of her seeing her again. He thanked the police and said that his daughter was mentally-challenged and does not speak Hindi. It appears that the father and daughter duo had gone to attend a wedding function in Vrindaban (UP) where she disappeared. A search failed to reveal her whereabouts and finally after lodging a missing person’s report with Vrindawan police, he returned home. The family had lost all hopes until that phone call from Mahila police brought tears of joy for them. However, it is still baffling as to how the girl ended up in the city as she is unable to recall the events that led to her disappearance. As the family was poor, financial assistance was also given to them by the Mahila police station personnel and also arranged their return fare.

Clue of Alipur and Dukhirampur

According to the TI, though the girl speaks Bengali, she was incoherent most of time. After some cajoling, she uttered words like Alipur and Dukhirampur.

An inquiry revealed that Alipur was district headquarter in West Bengal and Dukhirampur a village in the same district. The police enquired about the girl in the village and found her information to be true. A call was made to her father and asked him to come to Indore.
