Indore : The Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called for cleaner India and a number of initiatives have been put in place. But the district administration and Indore Municipal Corporation seems oblivious to the sanitation problem in the city. Public pleadings, frequent representations and court directives fall on deaf ears.

Amidst all this one man took up the cause for the city and its people and is waging lone battle while the general public continues to litter the city and criticise the officials for failing to improve sanitation conditions.

Social worker Kishore Kodwani has been fighting for the city and its residents, be it power tariff increase, or city traffic, or sanitation, or drinking water problem.

He has filed a number of petitions in the Indore Bench of MP High Court and got them to issue a number of directives to the government officials.

However, all of his efforts seem to have come to naught as officials of district administration and Indore Municipal Corporation are oblivious to city residents’ problems.

The apathy of officials and general public alike are evident as Kodwani is sitting on dharna for the last four days without any outcome in sight.

It may be recalled that the Indore Bench of MP High Court, while hearing a petition filed by Kodwani in respect of sanitation problems, had directed the IMC commissioner and the district collector to accompany Kodwani on a tour of the city and note the problems being faced by the residents and resolve them as per suggestions made by Kodwani.

The court also gave six weeks time to complete the exercise and directed the district collector to file a comprehensive report on actions taken at the end of the stipulated time. Two weeks have passed since then but neither the collector nor the IMC commissioner has bothered to comply with the court directives, leading to believe that they do not have any respect to the court or its directives.

The general public on its part is to be blamed as well because the cause taken by Kodwani is not personal but of the city and its residents. However, the public seems to be content with littering the city and then blaming the officials for their apathy towards their problems.

The irony is that while Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called for cleaner India, the city of Indore has worst sanitation system despite a BJP government in the state and the Municipal Corporation being at the helm of affairs.
