Junior doctors call off strike, demands met

Indore : A day after they agreed to provide their services only to emergency cases, junior doctors of MY Hospital on Friday called off their stir completely as two of their main demands were met and assurance were given to them that their remaining demands would be considered appropriately.

The services at the hospital came to normal as junior doctors started attending routine patients. They had gone on strike three days ago after Junior Doctors Association (JDA) president Mohit Naredi was beaten up by attendants of a patient.

On Friday, a meeting was held between junior doctors and MGM College administration where the former were assured that their issues would be dealt appropriately if the called off their strike.

The junior doctors went by the assurance and ended the strike. JUDA president Naredi said: “Two of our main demands were met by hospital and police administration so we resumed works.”

The demands which were met included case against the accused who assaulted Naredi under Doctors’ Protection Act and the step to cancel contractor of security agency of the hospital. The hospital administration on Friday issued show cause notice to the security agency.

After the strike, a patient had died at hospital and several patient cried foul as doctors did not attend any emergency and routine patients that come to the hospital in last three days.

Following huge uproar against the on-going strike and police registering a case under Doctors Protection Act, junior doctors had resumed emergency services on Thursday itself. However, they insisted for written assurance on their demands to resume their routine services. They demand was met and a written assurance was given to them by the hospital administration.
