Indore: Non-teaching employees of state universities, including Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya, called off their indefinite strike on Tuesday after the Department of Higher Education (DHE) agreed to consider some of their demands.

“The DHE has assured us of seriously considering our demands in time-bound manner after which we called off our strike,” said Anil Yadav, president of DAVV Employees (non-teaching) Association.

A delegation of different universities on Monday had met principal secretary Ashish Upadhyaya on Monday and kept their 17-point charter of demands. The PS had assured them of going to their demands and let them know the DHE’s stand.

On Monday, the state employees’ body was informed that the DHE is ready to accept some of their demands. “The employees was also told that the letters have been sent to the universities authorities to act on their genuine demand including regularization of daily wagers working for more than two decades and time-scale,” Yadav said.

He stated that the DHE has sought to know from universities how much burden would increase on their respective exchequers if daily wage employees were regularized and are in they in position to take that burden. “Similar query has been made for time-scale,” he said adding that they were satisfied with the DHE’s approach and resultantly called their strike off. The employees were on strike since March 27.

The universities would return to normal from Thursday.
